Ram Singh, 35, one of the suspects in the infamous Delhi rape case in which a young woman lost her life, has allegedly committed suicide in prison. An autopsy report confirmed that he died due to hanging but the circumstances surrounding his death are being questioned.
Singh’s brother, who arrived at Tihar Jail to collect his remains, said, “My brother was murdered. I have seen injury marks on the body and finger marks on the throat”. It is now believed that Singh’s family will take his body to Karauli in Rajasthan. Police officers at Tihar Jail claim to have found the rape suspect hanging in his cell, by his clothing, at around 05:30 on March 11th.
The cell was being shared by Singh and four other inmates who are thought to have been sleeping at the time of the incident. He was last seen alive at 03:30 that same morning when the guards on duty changed places. Although Tihar Jail is a high security prison with an abundance of cctv cameras installed, there is apparently no footage of this inside of his cell.
Singh and five of his friends are accused of raping a young student on a bus in the south of Delhi on December 16th 2012. 13 days later the girl died in a hospital in Singapore where she was being treated for her atrocious injuries. The incident sparked mass protests throughout India about the treatment of women by men.
Delhi is a heavily populated city in the north of India, boasting a massive 16.3 million people. The Hindi language is most prevalently spoken; however Urdu, Punjabi and many other dialects are spoken every day.
